The Municipality of Posusje received HRK 1,100,000.00 from the Government of the Republic of Croatia for the construction of a new elementary school, Fr. Peter Bakula. The result is this continuous efforts in finding additional sources of funding for the fulfillment of one of the strategic capital investment. The municipal budget is not able to bring the financial construction of the project even in years of budgetary projections. Therefore, the municipality has directed its staff and professional capacities towards obtaining funds from external sources through the creation of quality projects, partnerships and co-financing. The opportunity for the municipal leadership to inform the Croatian Government directly about this topic was presented at the scientific conference “European Constitution for BiH” in Neum in March this year, when Mayor Branko Bago met with State Secretary Zvonko Milas and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.
Posusje, as the youngest municipality in terms of population structure in Bosnia and Herzegovina, fortunately and with great pride, boasts a large number of children and young people. However, this advantage also has a great social responsibility and obliges the entire structure of the local government to provide adequate education in its work and activities.
In addition to the existing Ivan Mažuranić Primary School Posušje, which has about 1400 students, in 2008 a project was started to build a new school base. The Municipality’s commitment to transfer a number of students to the premises of the new elementary school as soon as possible and to dismantle the existing school resulted in the donation of this significant amount. So far, there has been constant financial support from the Republic of Croatia, and we are extremely grateful to them for their care and concern for the most vulnerable population of our municipality, for the children of Posusje.
